FIRST THURSDAYS
From November, the Tent at
St Ethelburga’s (Bishopsgate, London) will be the venue for a monthly
‘voice from the region’.
FODIP will host a range of experts giving first hand updates and insights into life and initiatives in Israel and the Palestinian territories. The first one will take place on Thursday, November 5th.
An inspirational icon of Jacob and Esau’s reconciliation provided the backdrop for a lunchtime seminar series hosted at Michaelhouse, Cambridge by Pax Christi, the international Catholic movement for peace. Jane Clements of FODIP spoke about prospects for reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians to an audience from a range of faith and humanist backgrounds.
The icon - ‘Christ our Reconciliation’ – was made for Pax Christi at the Monastery of St John in the Desert near Jerusalem; for further information and copies, visit:

ILM Radio Ramadan, broadcasting from Blackburn during the holy month, featured a programme on Muslim/Jewish relations and the Israeli/Palestinian situation. FODIP’s Director, Jane Clements, joined Kyle Hannan, Station Manager of Radio Salaam Shalom, a joint Jewish/Muslim community initiative in Bristol, and local Youth Worker Jaffer Hussain. The programme, hosted by Anjum Anwar MBE, Dialogue Development Officer based at Blackburn Cathedral, set out positive parameters for dialogue, while acknowledging the profound difficulty of this issue in inter faith relations.

A joint fact-finding tour to Jerusalem and Bethlehem was made recently by FODIP and St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace. Staff from both organisations met with dialogue practitioners and agencies working on the ground with Israeli Jews and Palestinian Muslims and Christians. Home hospitality was a particular feature of the trip, including Friday night dinner following Kabbalat Shabbat and Iftar in an East Jerusalem home.
